Okay here we are again where to start with 1942 and work our way to the end of the 40’s with 1949. So once again hang on here we go…
2 in January
Wildcat from Bill Finger and Ivan Hasen. Expert in hand-to-hand combat, world champion boxer, peak physical condition, possessed nine lives at any given time, super agility and surprising physical strength. Had a black bodysuit that covered entire body except for mouth and chin.
Mr. Terrific by Chuck Reizenstein andhalSharp. Master of martial arts, Olympic level athletic skills. Sported green and red costume with Fairplay on the front and mask.
2 in February
Airwaves from creators Murry Boltinoff, Mort Weisingerand Lee Harris. Used technology and interest in radio and electronics to create the equipment he used. Wore costume of yellow and blue bodysuit could not find clear description of costume.
Johnny Canuck by Leo Bachie. Had no superpowers. Wore red and white tights and a mask with red maple leaf on forehead. Can find anything else on this guy.
1 in March
Manhunter from Jack Kirby and Joe Simon. Donned a superhero like attire red costume with red mask. Had no superpowers, but was an above-average athlete and Superior tracker. Could not find anything else on this guy.
1 in April
Robotman by Jerry Siegal and Leo Nowak. Was a cyborg with super strength, speed, durability, endurance, super sharp vision. Had a rubber mask and flesh like bodysuit to make him look more human.
1 in July
Commando Yank creators unknown. Used guns, knives and different fighting forms. Attire consisted of khaki coveralls with big blue circle with white star and red dot on front.
1 in August
Captain Commando from Jerry Iger and Alex Blum. Was intelligent, had good leadership skills, marksmanship, excellent in unarmed combat, weapons master and had lots of gadgets. Wore blue bodysuit that buttoned up the front, red briefs, brown belt with white V on it, brown gloves, blue mask with white C on the front.
2 in December
Kids Eternity by Otto Binder and Sheldon Moldoff. He could summons historical, mythical and animals figures, intangibly by saying the word eternity also by saying the word he could make himself material or immaterial and invisible. Wore long-sleeved white turtleneck, tan pants, red belt and shoes.
Mary Marvel from Otto Binder and Marc Swayze. Was granted powers of the wizard Shazam. Magic lightning bestows super strength, speed, stamina, courage, physical and magical near invincibility, flight, genius-level intelligence, can control emission of magic lightning. Wore red skirted the bodysuit with gold lightning bolt on front, gold trim and gold boots.
Only 2 in 1943, 1 in March and 1 in November
Canada Jack by George Menendez Rae. Was very strong, athletic, gymnastist, expert Horseman, pilot and Jiu-Jitsu artist. Wore tank tops and regular street clothes.
Miss America from creators Otto Binder and Alexander Gabriele. Wore long-sleeved red bodysuit with skirt bottom, red tights, boots, cape that was red and blue. Abilities were super strength, flight, stamina and X-ray vision.
Okay that brings us to 1944 there was only 1 that year in May
Grim Reaper by Al Cami and Richard E Hughes. He fashioned himself almost all black Grim Reaper costume. With no superpowers he used guns and a sword to fight the bad guys.
1945 also only brought us 1 in January
Superboy from Don Cameron, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Wore blue bodysuit with red and yellow triangle shaped s symbol on front, red cape, briefs,boots and yellow belt. Powers were super strength, flight and X-ray vision.
There was none in 1946 and 3 in 1947. 1 and August, 1 said to be in the fall, the other was in December.
Black Canary by Robert Kanigher and Carmaine Infantino. Skills were in mixed martial arts and had ultrasonic scream. Wore armless and legless black bodysuit, gloves, fishnet hose, boots with blonde wig.
Moon Girl from Gardner Fox and Sheldon Moldoff. Along with super strength, she also owns a moonstone that makes her superior to most men and invulnerable in battle, telepathically controls moon ship plane. Outfitted in yellow long sleeve shirt with blue collar, red waistband, blue shorts with yellow moons on the sides and yellow sandals that lace to knees.
Golden Girl Rider I’m confirmed penciled by Syd Shores. No superpowers she just wore a green bulletproof cape with hood, black mask, tan dress and green boots. Abilities were energy and light generation and a golden force beam projected from her hand.
Well there were no new superheroes in 1948 or 1949. So I guess we’re done with this installment. Next time we’re going to start with the fifties and work from there so until next time…
